Welcome to Baker Street Blogs

If you don’t already know me, welcome! You have stumbled onto the blog of a freelance book editor who goes by the name of Jaime.
Several months ago, a client told me I had a unique voice and perspective, and they suggested I start my own blog. After much thought and a whole lotta anxiety, I decided to go for it . . . and here we are. I will use this space to answer some frequently asked questions about editors, the editing process, indie publishing, and all that jazz—questions many authors don’t know to ask or aren’t sure how to ask.
If you’ve viewed the rest of my website, you might feel like you already know more about me than you’d like. If that’s the case, you might want to stop reading now (it won’t hurt my feelings, I promise). For the rest of you—hello and thanks for being here! My brilliant husband co-stars in the life of Jaime (he coded this website, so a little ass-kissing is in order here), along with our two human children. Filling the supporting roles are two Corgis, one crested gecko, and a bearded dragon.
I love books and words and sentences, but I’m not big on pedantry. The English language is complex and nuanced, and style guides are limited in scope. One must interpret the rules provided by such guides and decide how to apply them to their own writing. A writer’s voice is their most powerful tool, and sometimes wielding such a tool results in a broken rule or two.
My philosophy for life is fairly simple; I strive to live each day with kindness, compassion, and a whole lotta humor. Laughter helps me get through the days when the burden of one more task/mistake/question/appointment/you-get-the-point will send me hurtling over the ledge of sanity into the endless chasm of chaos waiting below. If humor isn’t your jam (or if alliteration annoys you), that’s cool; but this may not be the blog for you.
My goal is to post a new blog every Thursday. If you enjoy being a taskmaster, please feel free to nag and harass me if I miss a deadline. Follow my Facebook page here to receive notifications when I post, ask me questions, tell me things you’d like to see featured here, or just to chat.
Phew! Together, we made it through my first blog post. Congratulations to us both, and thanks for reading!
This is Jaime, signing off.
